Style icons to the help

(Recommended Song while reading: ‘‘TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME’ by The 1975

For our male readers: check out frontman Matty Healy for style inspirations)

I’m sure you all know the struggle: you’re in front of your closet and you absolutely have no clue what to wear. Or you’re in the mood to go shopping, but let’s be honest, you don’t really need something. Everything and nothing is working, looks nice or might fit in your closet or to your style. Or you simply just want to try out something new. I have all these struggles at least three times a week, where I want to throw away all my clothes and completely reinvent myself. But there’s help and why reinvent the wheel when it’s working and right in front of you?

Style inspirations and icons can be found everywhere, whether you go on instagram and scroll through the page of your favorite influencer or celebrity or you watch one of your favorite movies and discover that the main character’s style choices make her an absolute betty* (if you’re obsessed with this movie, you know who I just quoted).

We decided to help you out by recreating four outfits from different style icons with clothes that we found in Budapest thrift shops of course.

Our first contenter is a character from one of my all time favorite movies: Léon: The Professional.

For all of you who haven’t watched the movie, shame on you! But to tell you shortly the plot: Léon, a professional hitman, reluctantly takes in 12-year old Mathilda, after her family is murdered by corrupt Drug Enforcement Administration officer Norman Stansfield. Léon and Mathilda form an unusual relationship, as she becomes his protegee and learns the hitman’s trade.

Mathilda, who’s played by young Nathalie Portman, quickly became a style icon with her khaki green bomber jackets, stripey patchwork crop tops, black choker, doc-marten like stomper boots and of course her black bob and fringe combo.

The second outfit is inspired by a certain topmodel of the century as many designers, fashion magazines and overall critics and fans call her: Bella Hadid.

By wearing beige bootcut leather pants, dark patterned crop top and classic dark brown 80s inspired leather jacket we tried to recreate one of Bella’s classic street styles. Since the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and even 2000s fashion is making a comeback, it wasn’t very hard to find similar pieces.

If you haven’t ever thought about taking inspirations from this movie, then you’re either a ‘fashion victim’ or ‘ensembly challenged’. Just Kidding! But really Cher Horowitz’ style is probably one of the most iconic ones in all of movie and fashion history. Starting from the classic yellow plaid skirt-jacket combo to the shiny Calvin Kleid mini-dress and the see-through jacket till the red Alaïa Dress that can’t touch the ground, because it’s an Alaïa, every outfit is quintessential Cher 90s fashion. The outfit we were inspired by is this red plaid combo with a beret and overknees. Classic Cher!

For our last outfit we chose another streetstyle by one of our favorite models/modern icons: the beautiful and always cool looking Hailey Bieber. We wanted to combine an oversized blazer with a light, baggy jeans and a cropped corset. This at first strange sounding combination is classic Hailey and we can prove that it can look very laid-back and cool while still being sexy.

I hope we could help you a bit, when you’re currently totally buggin over what to wear or what to buy.
